The Ballad of the Sun
I went for a walk last Sunday
And saw children holding guns
They closed their eyes and crossed themselves
While their so-called God looked on
Then later, I saw a man hung
For the colour of his skin
When I asked what the man had done
They said 'being was his sin'
Then I looked up at the red sky
And I could not see the sun
It seemed as though it could not lie
And could only scream and run
So I sighed, and kept on walking
In the knee-deep pools of blood
With sorrowed widows crying
Their tears adding to the flood
Then I went into the city
And imagine my surprise
When I saw no glimpse of pity
And instead found empty smiles
These things now merely tire me
And I now just cannot cry
Like the sun, I can only scream
Before I say goodbye.
